Every year I head a food drive called Food For Families. Our local Kiwanis Club supplies our community with food baskets before the Christmas holidays. So for the last four or five years we have had "theme" days to encourage the staff and students to donate canned and boxed foods in exchange for being able to wear or bring something special on a given day. For example we have "Mix & Match For Muffin Mix Day" or "Slippers For Soup" and a student favorite "Cookies For Cans" where they get a cookie at lunch if they donate a canned food. So it takes many people in the building to pull this off including TEAM Patterson parents, teachers, lunch staff and custodians, students and teachers making posters, helping collect the food items and box and label the donations. So I made a Google Doc to keep everyone on the same page. The problem with this is that not everyone in the building is familiar with how Google Docs works so it has been a learning curve for most of us. It is very interesting to see who is actually trying to learn a new application.

It's great that you found a real need for a shared, collaborative Google doc. I applaud you for trying this out even though many of the people collaborating with you were unfamiliar with Google docs and the commenting features. I added one more comment for you! :)

Great use of a collaborative Google Doc! It is nice to see how your school community willingly supports and works on the food drive.
