So for digital citizenship I reviewed these different areas. As a teacher, who is expected to be using the internet for work expectations, I think I am probably a bit more up to date than other adults who just enjoy computers for the social media aspect or their "work computer" which may be limited to company used programs in their given field. But with things always changing, it can be difficult to keep current no matter what your computer knowledge and use is. Having a husband who is a IT guy also helps as he has to be on top of the most current policies for his company and brings much of this information home. With that said, in my current position working with special needs K-3 students, most of the sites they are able to get to directly given by me. There are parents on the other hand, that often need some education on the internet and their children. Even my cognitively impaired children can get to places that are inapporpriate but just pushing buttons! My thinking is to find some sites that I can recommend to parents to review and add them to my "Face of the Classroom" site. They may be appropriate for my students or older siblings to use.
So I started looking for some sites that I could use, if I had older special needs elementary students. What I like is that I could also have parents access the same materials at home so that they could work (together) with their child. Ahh, a learning experience and bonding for both! I found Digital Passport. It breaks into five modules that give parents information, a video and games for the students.
